It means she didn't have to answer any more questions. She was "saved" or "excused" from doing so.

I agree with Ivy - to save someone from doing something. The way to use this verb is 'spare SOMEONE from SOMETHING' or 'spare SOMEONE from DOING SOMETHING'. Hope that helps you to use it yourself perhaps in future.

she was excused/saved from having to answer any more questions, it was not necessary either a must for her to answer any more questions
