Okay so they use the preposition por (by, through, for) + Definite article (the) which becomes the following: por + a = pela por + o = pelo por + os = pelos por + as = pelas Some examples: Eu passei pela mesma situação que você (I’ve been through the same situation as you) Sempre ando pelas mesmas ruas para ir ao trabalho (I always walk through the same streets to get to work) Hope that helps bro. It seems obvious to a native speaker but not to a learner: The genre of the preposition must be the same to the noun that it refers to. "Ontem caminhei pelo bairro Liberdade". Bairro is a masculine noun "Ontem caminhei pelas ruas de São Paulo". Ruas is a feminine noun

Hi Reny How are you? The difference between the words "pelo" and ''pela'' in Portuguese are: It are two ways for speak how to do something. 1- "pelo" is wrote of the masculine form. Exemple: He writes by his son. Ele escreve por seu filho; or Ele escreve PELO seu filho. (by in the place him) NOTE: The word "pêlo" (with this "^" sign) also exist in the Portuguese lenguage that mean "fur" in English. Exemple: Cat fur >> for animals Pêlo de gato >> para animais. 2- "pela" is wrote of the female form. Exemplo: She ate by her daughter. Ela comeu por sua filha; or Ela comeu PELA filha dela. (by her daughter)
