Hello,
i thought that うちwas the translation of house/home, but i was watching the tv show つばさ and the lady character used a different word for home. not sure what it was but it sounded like eiwa.

You can use ”家(いえ/ie)” when you are speaking about a house, but when you speak about your own you can use ”内(うち/uchi)”.
Maybe you heard "ie ha(wa)", that is they might be speaking about the house as the main topic.

we use "Uchi" for someone's home/house as in "友達のうちに行く” " go to friend's house", although it sounds informal. I think there is little difference between Uchi and Ie. So we use both, but depends on the situation.
