"going through sth" & "looking through sth" - are they same? Hi friends, "going through sth" and "looking through sth" - are they same? e.g. I am going through the file Vs. I am looking thorough the file. I went through the file Vs. I looked through the file. Thanks in advance! Niwantha

Not quite; they are not exactly the same. If we are reading the contents very carefully, we are "looking through" the contents. If we are searching something carefully and systematically, we "go through" that thing. Examples: Detectives went through the crime scene for signs of foul play. // I looked through the SOP in the document and found two errors.
