What is the etymology of "kikirik" (peanut)?
Can comebody please check an Albanian etymological dictionary, as I have no access to any.
The word's etymology is unknown in Serbo-Croatian as well, and it appears as such only in the two languages and in Macedonian. The theory that it comes from Italian "chicchi ricchi" is disputed and not plausible at all, as Italian uses "chicchiricchi" as an onomatopoeia for "cock-a-doodle-doo", and their words for peanuts are arachide, nocciolina, and spagnoletta.
Fjale.al notes "kikë", "kikël", and "kikëz" as related words; however, I am unable to find how these words relate to "kikirik".
Much appreciated.
