What's the difference between "make" and "make up"? For example, "Make a fire." "Make up a fire." What's the difference?

Make is most commonly used to describe the action of creating something. Make up is often used to describe the action of fabricating an untrue statement. There are other uses of both.

Main difference Never heard "make up a fire". Make the bed. Make up the bed for our guest. . Apart from "make up" (noun) = cometics, and "make up" (verb) = reconcile differences in a relationship, I can't think of many places to use "make up".
