" I am in class" or "I am in a class" - which is correct? "Is "a" needed?
Hi friends,
If someone asked "where are you now?", which would be the correct answer? What would you select as a native speaker?
1) I am in a class now.
2) I am in class now.
Thanks in advance!

In neither sentence would you need to repeat “now”. “I am in class” is what a student would say to his parent (who knows that he is taking classes). “I am in a class” would make sense if the person asking the question didn’t know that the person answering regularly takes classes.

The “a” is not necessary, however, it is not incorrect. Both answers work well.
