in the hole "You're breathing through a tube in a hole in your throat. " What does" in a hole" mean here? Wouldn't the sentence be clear without the part?

I assume this is describing the surgical procedure known a tracheostomy, which involves cutting a hole in the throat and inserting tube into it. Reference to this extra hole is important in describing and understanding the procedure.
