Yulan: zhe shi ni di yi ci lai Taiwan ma? Is this your first time in Taiwan?
Patrick: Bu shi. Wo jihu mei nian dou lai Taiwan. Qu nian, wo lai le liang ci. No I come (taiwan) almost every year. I came twice last year.
Yulan: Zhen de? Weishenme? Really? Why?
Patrick: Di yi ci, women lai canjia wo taitai de meimei de hunli. Di er ci, lai guo chunjie. The first time we came to attend my wifes younger sisters wedding. The second time we came to celebrate the chinese new year.
Yulan: Zheme shuo, ni taitai shi Taiwanren le? In that case your wife is from Taiwan.
Patrick: Shi'a Yes.
Yulan: Nimen shi zenme renshi de? How you get to know each other?
Patrick: Shuo lai hua chang. It's a long story. Shi nian qian, ta qu Meiguo shang daxue. Women shi tongxue. a year ago she went or go to American University. We were classmates. You yi tian...Zhen langman. Aiyo! Xiayu le. Zanmen jin qu tan ba. One day... really romantic. Whoops! It's raining. We go in to chat.
The sentance I'm stuck on is Nimen shi zenme renshi de? (lit you be how know) I'm guessing in the context of the passage it means how did you get to know each other?

Absolutely correct about the translation except for "shi nian qian" which means ten years ago whereas "yi nian qian" means one year ago, as what Sho has said .

Yes,you're right about the translation for your question highlighted.
But there is a small mistake in another sentence,'Shi nian qian, ta qu Meiguo shang daxue.'I think it means ten years ago, not a year.....hope this could help you clear....
