When something happens between the evening and the morning, you can use both ‘at night’ and ‘in the night’. However, ‘in the night’ is much less common and is used to mean ‘during the night’. AT NIGHT general use (the one you are going to use the most) I never watch TV at night. This park is quite dangerous at night. IN THE NIGHT refers to one specific night, means ‘during the night’ "Someone stole my car in the night"
