Genosse is the English word 'comrade', used by communists. Kamerad means friend, but is not so much used nowadays. It appears in the word 'Kameradenschwein' or kameradschaftlich. Otherwise Kamerad used in military. We would rather use Freund, Kamerad sounds more like a term people would use who belong to an organization or group with some rules.
