You can read the paper through this, it's so clean.
Hello.
Could you, please, explain to me what "can read the paper through this" means below? I heard it in an American movie.
"Hey, you want a smoke? You can read the paper through this, it's so clean."
It doesn't make much sense to me. Wonder if the paper means the newspaper.
Thank you!

The main point is, he's saying the cigarette is 'healthy' and won't stop you reading as it gives off little smoke. So little smoke is given off that if you smoke it, the fumes/smoke given off won't get in the way of you reading.

Without more context, it's difficult to be sure. However, it seems to refer to a pipe, bong, or other device used to smoke. The speaker seems to be saying that the glass pipe or bong is so clean and transparent that you can see through to the other side well enough to read a newspaper.

I assume it is referring to the smoke from the cigarette being so clean/clear that you can see through it enough to be able to read.
