Yes, I've heard 'new school'.
'new-fangled' is very American - not said elsewhere. Something to be aware of.
He's 'up to date'/'with-it'/'cool'/'modern' are possibilities where I am. Some are probably local in usage.

A cliched phrase that an older person who is shocked/annoyed by changes in technology and social rules would use is “new-fangled”.
“These new-fangled phones!”
More generally, “edgy”, “radical”, “provocative” and possibly “punk(rock)”.
