“promise to love her for better or for worse”; why FOR? " promise to love her for better or for worse" That's from a wedding ceremony and I kinda know what that means, but I was wondering why did they use 'for' here. Could you find and show me the same usage of 'for' from any dictioniary entry?

"for better or for worse" is a common expression. It's better to learn 'the expression' rather than try and break it down. It means "whether in good times or in bad times" or "no matter what happens".
