What would be the verb from the noun 'self-study'?
He has made good progress working hard and self-studying (?)
How can I amend the sentence and use self-study here?
By the way, can I use ' considerable' with the 'progress'? What adjectives usually go along with 'progress' (in the same positive meaning)?

Considerable works here. But it only means about the same as "good." You can say "great" or "excellent" to talk about larger progress.
