Probably something like: "Thank you - I/we a had very nice time. But how have you been? Can you bring me up to date on things around here?"

As it is not a standard phrase like 'what's up' most people would probably expect an answer. Something like 'thanks, I enjoyed the sun and the drinks'. In other words: take it as a question.
