Why 와이프 instead of 아내?
I've noticed in my lesson books the word '아내' is used for 'wife'; however, when I watch Korean shows or interviews, Koreans will use '와이프'. Why is this?
There's about 5-10 year gap between now and when my books/resources were published, so I was wondering if anything has happened that made a Korean pronunciation of the English word more preferable to the Korean word.

와이프 is used a a lot as a loanword. 아내 is also used but sounds a little formal while 와이프 sounds more informal/casual. That is why you heard 와이프 more in Korean drama and saw 아내 in your book more because work book should be formal. And I think it's not because of the 5 -10 year difference as many senior generation use 와이프 freely in casual conversations.

It reminds me of a conversation with my friends yesterday. We laughed saying like " Why wife is okay? When husband is not common at all!"

I don't know exactly what to answer and it depends on the age group, but in the past, there was a time when 'repelling to native culture' and 'preferring to foreign culture' were in general social culture.a korean style english, konglish is also part of the kind.
