Are the words "irresolute" and "indecisive" synonyms and can be used interchangeably?

They mean the same thing but irresolute is usually used to describe a person. Indecisive could refer to a person or the result of a test / experiment.

I agree with Bron's answer, but I would add that "irresolute" is a very rarely used word. Certainly not in normal spoken language. Hesitant would be a more common choice than irresolute.
