mangiare e prendere
I know both verbs can mean "to eat" but are there any situations where one sounds more natural than the other? Or can you use both interchangeably?
e.g.
Perche' non andiamo a predere un gelato?
Perche' non andiamo a mangiare un gelato?

Ciao,
dipende dalle situazioni, però per cercare una regola si usa 'mangiare' per quando consumi cose per fame (e quindi mastichi), mentre 'prendere' si usa quando consumi cose per gusto:
prendere un gelato
prendere un caffè
mangiare un panino
mangiare una bistecca
mangiare una pizza
Spero ti sia utile.

Perhaps I can observe that I think there are close equivalents in English to each of your sentences (although I don't speak Japanese, sorry)
"prendere", as Irene says, "Shall we go and get an ice cream?" or "Shall we go and have some ice cream?" "Prendere", "get" and "have" are general words comprising the whole process of ordering it, paying for it and eating it.
"Perchè non andiamo a mangiare un gelato?" - "Why don't we go and eat some ice cream?" comprises literally only the eating. It sounds as if you want to eat it without ordering it or paying for it.

Hi :) "Prendere" literally means "to take", in this case I'd translate it as "to get" = Shall we go and get an ice cream?
I'd defintely say that "prendere un gelato" sounds more natural as I'd never say "andiamo a mangiare un gelato".
Hop that helps :)
