What's the meaning and how to use this phrasal verb: "dry up"? Example: With the current system, those members will just dry up and die. Could you give me some examples? I would appreciate that :) Thank you in advance!

Dry up can mean a few things. It can refer to a lack of water and how plants suffer and die without water. All the vegetation dried up during the drought. It can also refer to a person who has become dull or old. James was also so much fun, but now he is a dried up husk of a man. It can also be used metaphorically to refer toa supply (such as water or money or energy) running out. Claire always had lots of friends, and she liked to throw extravagant parties, until her money dried up.

Hi Raphael, "Dry up," means to take away moisture or to lose moisture, usually becoming withered or shriveled. For example, "The fallen leaves dried up in the sun." It can also be used metaphorically. For example, to say that a person has "dried up" could mean that they are not very vibrant or very energetic anymore. I don't have enough context to know what your example sentence means exactly, but I'm guessing it might be more of a metaphorical meaning.

Hello Raphael! In the context of the sentence that you have provided, the phrase "dry up" means when something thought to be a continuous flow or source decreases and stops. Some examples: "What will happen to the project when the money dries up?" "The conversation began to dry up and they began to repeat themselves." I hope that helps!
