"looking for " is more commonly used in everyday language for normal situations... I'm looking for my glasses all over the house
"Seek" is more poetic and sometimes used in abstract senses. ... to seek the true meaning of life

They are practically synonyms (they mean the same thing). But "to seek", in my opinion, has a more serious sound to it. It give the impression that the object is more important or profound.
