http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kibosh has this: kibosh (alternately, kybosh) 'To put the kybosh on' is to do for something, finish it off, or simply to end it or terminate it. The OED says the origin is obscure and possibly Yiddish. Other sources[2], suggest that it may be from the Irish an chaip bháis, 'the cap of death' (a reference to the "black cap" worn by a judge passing sentence of capital punishment, or perhaps to the gruesome method of execution called pitchcapping[3]); or else somehow connected with "bosh", from Turkish "boş" (empty).

A checking or restraining element: had to put the kibosh on a poorly conceived plan. put the kibosh on: to put a stop to; prevent from continuing; halt, "Halt the process". "foreclose". "prevent,". "To put the last hand to". "To put the screws on". "To put to flight". Hope this helps.

This is an informal expression meaning 'to prevent something from happening or from being successful': 'The heavy rain put the kibosh on our plans to have a barbecue in the garden.' = The heavy rain put a stop to our plans to have a barbecue in the garden.'

Hello Safaa, 'to put the kibosh on' means idiomatically halt or stop. 'kibosh' as a slang term refers to a checking or restraining element.
