the meaning depend on the text generally
1- "he's something" is an informal way to say ( that he is a remarkable/ important person )
Definition:
- an important or remarkable person or thing
Example :
He thinks he is something in that uniform.
it means that he think that he look good and remarkable in that uniform.
..........................
and if your sentence is something like this " He looks something like his father "
2- it means that he look like ( resemble ) his father ( facial , attitude resembling )
(A little; somewhat) like his father

Usually people say "he's something else" meaning he is to be admired, but if it is said in a sarcastic tone, then it is implied that he is not an admirable person.
