"A Happy New Year" is "明けましておめでとうございます。(akemasite omedetougozaimasu)". But, when we met friends or co-workers, we say "明けましておめでとうございます。今年もよろしくお願いします。(akemasite omedetougozaimasu. kotosimo yorosiku onegaisimasu)" that means "A Happy New Year. I look forward to your continued good will in the coming year.".
