The holidays can be a time for gentle reflection on the year past. 1. on the past year 2. on the year past I would say #1, but I heard this in one episode of ‘The Flash’. Does #1 and #2 have any nuances? Thank you.

The first one is the most frequently used, with the most usual grammar. The second one is actually "... reflection on the year (that has) passed". We could also refer to "the year (that has) gone by". These are reduced relative clauses.

For me, #2 sounds a bit unnatural. I think most people would say #1.
