There have been many films throughout history that were widely considered Oscar-worthy but didn’t win, either due to strong competition, controversial snubs, or the Academy’s voting trends. Here are some of the biggest examples: Best Picture Snubs: 1. La La Land (2016) – Infamously announced as the winner but actually lost to Moonlight. Best Director Snubs: 1. Alfred Hitchcock – Considered one of the greatest directors, yet never won Best Director. 2. Greta Gerwig – Despite Barbie’s massive impact, she was snubbed for Best Director. Best Animated Film Snubs: 1. The Lion King (1994) – Released before the Academy introduced the Best Animated Feature category.

The Moonlight mistake happened in 2017, but I think you’re right to put 2016 by La La Land as that’s the year it was released.
