woodpecker's notebook entry: Dec 16, 2010 Vision of tomorrow No one knows for sure that what will happen in the future. But as the days went by, we can speculate that science will change our life style compeletly. At that time, Telecommunication revolution is developing around the groble and the cell videophones could be the major source of visual information instead of television. Tencent company will be entittled with the world most widely used chat software and become the most famous IT company with westerners` acceptance of its International version . Computers solve all, robots can handle all things well, computers are drivers , translators…… Cigarttets are nothing for human being now by creating a new kind of substitution. seldom can find people dead of lung problems then. Short-commons is a severe issue which we must confront. But don`t be worried, it is said that the oceans will be the granary of portein in the near future. There is no sexual discrimination any longer, women of some places are no need to veil their faces when they go out into the street. they can show their beauties whenever they want. Male is not the only gender which can rule the roost. Over all, as long as we can live together on this planet in harmony, that`s enough. We had better be content with what we have gained , hadn`t we ?

woodpecker's notebook entry: Nov 28, 2010 A Mess of Pottage The blockbuster 2012 hit the town last year. This film draws a picture of catastrophe with its typical grand scene and visual effects.Box office revenue is not the only aspect to reflect the success of this movie.The wonderful aspect is it let some of us perceive the importance of the environment clearly .which remind me of a story from the Bible which is called A Mess of Pottage,it is about a man who abandoned his bornright just for a mess of pottage.What I want to say is our human beings are doing our best to capture wealth from nature and make sure to make the best of natural resources.Apparently here comes a drawback,people have desire for making profits without any control.This situation is similar with this story,we can figure out that we are selling our descendants` happiness for a mess of pottage. If we keep the ball rolling ,day in day out we will have nature`s revenge and die out from this beautiful blue planet without any trace. As a saying goes “Swallows may have gone,but there is a time of return;willow trees may have fallen ,but there is a time of regreening;peach blossoms may have fallen,but they will bloom again“. But can a man`s life be renewed?Obviously the answer is negative .Perhaps some of us have awared of that the circumstances of our environment are going from bad to worse, no wonder that our people are finding a way to capture profits;a way to desire for changing our nature;a way to suffer some rare diseases and to take virus;a way to suicide.Since we still have space to improve our behaviors,it is never too late to devote our more attention on sustainable development. Humankind has been able to thrive for thousands of years because nature provides it with resources like topsoil , fish in oceans and seas, undergroud water, minerals,oil and wetlands but these resources are finite,like cookies in a jar.We are using up many of these resources,and some don`t have substitutes. Nowadays,climate change is a signficant global issue of worldwide concern.it is both an environmental and development issue,and intrinisically a development issue.the large-scale exploitation and utilization of energy resources is one of the major causes of environmental pollution and climate change.it is an urgent issue facing all countries. Carbon dioxide and other gases for the burning of fossil fuels collect in the atmosphere and act like the glass wall of green house,trapping heat on the earth`s surface.No wonder that global warming is a too much serious than before as the days went by.Common sense tells us it make no sense to overrect to the prospect of global warming ,but it makes no sense to ignore it either.a prudent poicy that stresses convervation and alternate energy sources seems to me to be wise insurance in an uncertain age. Water is vital for our survival and for producing food.It takes much water to produce grain and feed aniamls and in an ill-considered irrigation scheme to grow plants in some drought place .Besides water pollution and human`s activities influence on the balance of sea life`s food chain and their living habits a lot. Even some rare species cannot find a good place to reproduce their later generations,some of them are extinct,it is just a tip of iceberg. As for land,lakes and forests are disappearing ,illegal waste dumping ,used as landfill ,etc. These issues that concern us today:the prevention of the protection of the environmet ;the balancing of population and resources.The management of every so that we will neither exhaust our resources with unbridled growth nor contaminate the environment.We should do our best to protect and improve our ecological environment,so as to ensure that our economic development will not only meet the current needs of this gengeration,but benefit future gengration. If there are any bystanders left in the world peolple on the sidelines. We are not the only species in this unverise so protecting environment is our obligations .obviously that yelding with my own words is like water off a duck`s back,cannot make any sense,but hopefully my words can warn of someone who has the sense of crisis.To us ,today is tomorrow .In order to reproduce excellent offsprings,we must take effective measures to confront contamination right now and give our eyeteeth for making a harmonious atmosphere for our kids,keep the clean water and blue sky for them. At that day ,my vision is we can have a rest and reading with a cup ot tea, tell a story to our children of what their ancestors have done for them and teach them to be content with our lives. We can claim “Mission accomplished” No matter 2012 is the end day or not ,we can not only care for the profits without considering the the nature.It holds the same reason with “A mess of pottage”.Although we can not solve this issue constantly ,we are working on it !
