Hello! I’m Nehir Şimşek, and those words mean "river" and "lightning" in Turkish. Pretty cool, right? As you can guess, I am Turkish and I am here to teach both English and Turkish. I am a psychology student in the capital city of Hungary, Budapest. However, I was born and raised in Ankara, Turkey. I‘m quite passionate about traveling, music, and movies. I can play two different instruments: the piano and the ukulele, which I have learned to play by myself. I am absolutely thrilled to meet you and talk more about our passions and interests, as well as learning a language in short-term. Although learning a new language can seem time-consuming, as a community tutor, I would like to make you focus on its fun and enjoyable aspects while learning the language in depth. As a person who has learned English at a C2 level by herself, I can easily comprehend what you might go through. Trust in the process, and do not worry; we will work through it together. Throughout our lessons, we will focus on the actual reason that makes you want to learn this language. To communicate? To understand TV shows without the subtitles? Or is it something else? Once we have done that, we will be working through a wide range of materials, such as textbooks, videos, articles, presentations, and small exercises. She was very nice and easy to talk to! Our first call went very well. She asked me what I was wanting to get out of our lessons, and gave me some good info for our next lesson. We had some simple conversational practice, which was a nice way to ease into this process for a beginner like myself. Highly recommend.

Nehir is very kind and patient. She taught me new things and helped break down the words for me, so that I could relate with them. I’ve only been learning Turkish a short while, so I appreciated how patient she was with me. I enjoyed bonding with her over our love of languages as well, and listening to her talk about the origin of some of the Turkish words. Im very excited for our next class!
