Miguel Barrientos

I have taken dozens of lessons with Miguel, and he is an outstanding teacher in his ability to speak to you at a speed and level you can understand while also challenging you to learn more each and every lesson. He truly loves language learning and methods for learning, such as “comprehensible input”, that ensure what you learn during the lesson “sticks” so you can build each time you practice. Recently he walked me through one of his “Short Stories” lessons and I was blown away. He literally personalizes the lesson of a topic/story/character of your interest and tailors it to your reading level. It’s extremely effective for us visual learners as the artistic frames depict what the caption is talking about. Unique and ingenious take on making Spanish more accessible and easier to process/remember. Miguel is simply an amazing teacher who can give you everything you need to actually learn, understand, and speak Spanish. Highest of recommendations.

This is my second class with Miguel, but I've been taking iTalki courses for over four years, and I can honestly say that his approach to language teaching is one of the more unique methods that I have encountered -- in a good way. Rather than sitting around the whole time and banging through the same conversation topics you do with other instructors, his "comprehensible input" approach via short stories and other content is like a breath of fresh air. It seems highly effective and, if nothing else, a more enjoyable approach than just free-talking through a conversation.

Such a cool way to learn languages! Great teacher, always asking questions and getting you to speak more about your interests. Good corrections and explanations, too.

I was looking for a teacher to help me over the A2 plateau, and I think i struck gold with Miguel. He is both encouraging but not afraid to tell me where I'm lacking in my study habits. I would highly recommend him to anyone, I'm very much looking forward to our next class!
