Hello! My name is Takeshi. I lived in Toronto for two years, and now I'm back in Japan! I also spent 9 months in the States. While I was in the States, I spent my time recording music in Chicago and studying English. I'm super passionate about music, movies, acting, creating content, and language. I'm also addicted to improving myself. I want to meet people who are serious about learning Japanese and whom I can share my vast knowledge with! I'm looking forward to meeting you!
Mijn creaties
Ik als leerkracht
I've been professionally teaching Japanese for about three years. My specialties are casual Japanese and teaching phrases that only native speakers use! I help my students avoid directly translating things, as this often results in creating unnatural expressions (E.g When we hang out and friends look a bit bored, we don't say "Are you bored? We say "Do you wanna do something different? (何か違うことする?)in Japanese). Also, I break down common formal Japanese expressions and explain how you can make casual phrases with them. So that you can see the difference and pick proper expressions when you speak or write!
Mijn lessen en manier van lesgeven
I teach Japanese for a variety of use cases. For example, one of my students wants to be a flight attendant, so we practice a mix of formal and casual Japanese. Another one of my students wants to be funny when he speaks Japanese, so we speak casually and watch anime and comedy together! I always watch my student's favourite anime, shows and videos on youtube to learn natural expressions so that they can remember phrases and rewatch them whenever they forget the phrases we learned! I'm passionate about finding methods that suit my friends. (I call the people I teach, friends!)

Takeshi has been an amazing teacher so far! He is very thorough and easy to talk to, gives great examples, relevant and up to date Japanese terms, and overall makes lessons super fun and enjoyable! I leave each lesson with tons of new knowledge to practice and study and look forward to every lesson with him.

I've been taking weekly lessons with Takeshi for almost two years now and I can't recommend him enough! Although I was still making steady progress I felt like the routine for our lessons and my homework needed to be switched up a bit last lesson and as usual he came back with a lot of creative ideas and was more than willing to listen to my own ideas to devise new methods to keep the learning process fresh and productive. Every single lesson is as fun as it is effective and I'm excited to keep learning with him!

Takeshi is exactly the kind of tutor I need at this stage of my Japanese learning journey. He explains concepts well, keeps a fun environment during the lesson while continuously challenging me. He's able to correct me on the spot without disrupting the flow of the conversation when we're talking in Japanese only, and suggest more casual or natural ways to phrase things. 100% would recommend, and I'll be working with him for the foreseeable future.

I really, really appreciate Takeshi's patience with me as I feel it takes a little bit of a while for me to "change gears" into Japanese. I am so grateful!
