Having studied five foreign languages on my own and without living in the country where those languages were spoken (except Dutch) I know very well how challenging it is to improve one's language skills! I empathize very easily with new students, and I cherish people with different backgrounds. I am looking for motivated adult students who are genuinely interested in the Italian culture. Students from abroad who are planning to stay in Florence for a while to study Art History, Literature, Arts & Crafts in one of the cultural institutions, or universities in town are most welcome too! I like to teach in an informal learning environment with ample room for mutual feedback between teacher and apprentice. Depending on my students' level, I devise a personalized learning plan based on their needs. I like to set up creative lessons in which I alternate between listening and speaking activities. I provide a variety of inputs to create more learning opportunities for my students, using different teaching materials such as videos, songs, plays, games, etc. Upon requests, I can also delve into the most challenging parts of the Italian grammar and vocabulary. I enjoy my lessons with Silvia so much! Over the years with her, my confidence has grown and even though I still make many mistakes, it feels great to know that I can participate in conversations with such varied themes as fashion, pop culture, news, literature, history, language and art. She always presents the most interesting articles. Today we discussed research about why birds sing, beavers the Czech Republic and the history of the anti-mafia movement in Italy.
