Hello World, I am Moto, Nice to meet you!
I am from Colorado, USA and have lived in Medellin, Colombia for 10 years. I founded and operated Göra Makerspace for five years in Medellin, and there we hosted language exchange programs. That is where I first noticed the power of daily and casual conversation in order to learn new languages. I am excited to converse with you in English! Hola Mundo, soy Moto! Mucho gusto conocerte! Part of the battle of learning a new language is building your self confidence. I know from personal experience that I sometimes understood what someone said but only because of my own self doubt I told myself I did not understand when I really did! Most of us have experienced the feeling of knowing the answer but being too afraid to speak up for fear of being wrong. As a professor I create a safe environment you can make mistakes and learn from them. Parte de la batalla de aprender una nueva idioma es construyendo autoconfianza. To make my students comfortable we start by asking them what they know and like. I believe that students learn languages faster and remember more when they are emotionally involved as much as they are intellectually. As we converse I identify the themes and topics my students respond actively to and build on top of that information to create an environment where the student feels safe and excited to express themselves genuinely. We must remember the importance of culture and its role in learning to speak English. Think like an English speaker, then speak like it too! I really enjoy Moto’s classes!
