Impressed by the way that Kai can steer and facilitate conversation into areas of interest (discussing inter al. cremation, cycling, left-handedness, and colonialism) while stretching my Taiwanese - and enthusing me to want to stretch my Taiwanese - incrementally to a higher level. Kai's approach exemplifies Zygotsky's "zone of proximal development" mode of tuition.

First lesson with Kai was great - he is friendly, patient, enthusiastic, and puts a lot of effort into creating helpful materials. Looking forward to continuing with him!

As always Kai was most encouraging and acted as a critical friend, offering corrections selectively, and making sure that the emphasis was on comprehension. He was able, deftly, to adapt our conversation in directions which were of particularly interest to me, even though they were not directions which I had "warned" him about beforehand. Nonetheless, he was able to steer the conversation ably, both from helping me express my ideas in Taiwanese and showing a shared interest in the thoughts I was keen to communicate. I invariably conclude our lessons with a renewed enthusiasm.

Great once again to benefit from Kai's encouragement, broad intellectual interests, and expert language tuition, even when venturing into unscheduled and rather heterodox areas of what interests and motivates me. Not often that ideas to do with Chinese animal years and notions of fate are discussed with reference to Spinoza's philosophy and James Joyce's Ulysses - yet, with Kai's guidance, we were able to discuss these matters in Taiwanese! Bravo!

Kai is an excellent teacher. He uses your real life experiences to teach you the language, as well as formal materials to help you visualize and understand the language in multiple contexts. My husband and I have been taking lessons from Kai for several months (different languages) and we are truly improving. He is professional and personable, creating a comfortable and enjoyable environment for whoever he sees. I highly recommend Kai!
