There’s an old saying that when the pupil is ready, the teacher appears. So if you’re ready to take your first steps in Spanish, or you’d like to speak it more fluently and with greater flair, I’m here to help! Teaching this beautiful language is my full-time job and my passion. I love what I do, and I know what I’m doing: I have a master’s degree in teaching Spanish as a foreign language from the Autonomous University of Madrid, a degree in Philosophy from the University of Granada, and ten years of experience teaching Spanish for travel, business, academia and medicine, as well as Hispanic literature and much besides.

I'm an attentive teacher and genuinely interested in my students. I have an excellent knowledge of Spanish grammar and always adapt explanations to where my learners are at. Conversation is centred around my students' interests. Over the years I’ve found myself discussing Don Quixote, navigation, global politics, animation, Uruguayan music, microbiology, family trees and a whole lot more. Talking and sharing ideas is another passion of mine - you can take the girl out of southern Spain, but you can’t take southern Spain out of the girl!

I create my own lessons, which are tailored to your needs as well as your interests. If you’re a beginner, I’ll help you understand exactly what you need to know to get speaking. Concepts are explained simply and with clarity, and you’ll be talking in Spanish from the first lesson. With more advanced students, I love to combine relevant exercises with conversations about whatever interests you, fixing errors and enriching vocabulary** and sentence construction as we go. **arrebol = the red-pink colour that clouds turn at sunset. (You can have this word - my favourite - for free!)

After my first lesson, I can already say that Carmen is an outstanding teacher. She engaged me in meaningful conversation, helping me to enrich my vocabulary, while listening carefully to my mistakes and correcting them instantly. At the end of the lesson, she took a few minutes to go over my most important grammatical issues again. I am looking forward to a series of productive lessons with her.
