Hi! Thank you for visiting my profile.
I'm a native English speaker from the U.K. with a standard English accent. I speak French and Portuguese, as well as some Polish and Spanish.
I studied translation, but my passion is teaching English, and I would be delighted to help you achieve your goals - as a language learner myself, I am able to understand what works and what learners may need.
I also love literature, food, travelling and experiencing other cultures - my dream is to live and teach in many countries around the world.

I know it takes courage to speak another language, and so my priority is to create an environment where you feel safe to speak without judgment or too much pressure. I am flexible and happy to adapt to your needs, but every lesson will be planned, so there is no need to worry we'll have nothing to talk about.
I will gently correct and help you express yourself more naturally, while encouraging you to play an active role in identifying and fixing your own mistakes.
I believe it is important to use as much English as possible, even for beginners, but if you speak French or Portuguese I can help you using that language if needed. If you speak Spanish or Polish, I will also try my best!Mijn lessen en manier van lesgeven
Every lesson will be planned for you depending on your goals, your interests and what you need to improve.
Whether you want to improve a specific skill such as speaking, pronunciation or writing, or whether you prefer more structured lessons based on a textbook, I will come prepared with materials specially selected to help you push yourself and learn something every time.
I am open to teaching all levels, but if you are a total beginner, it is better if I know a bit of your language!

Taking classes with Joan has been a pleasant surprise. Over the two years I've been at Italki, I’ve had lessons with various teachers, but this is the first time I've experienced a class tailored to my specific needs rather than created spontaneously. Her Portuguese is impeccable, which is incredibly helpful when I have doubts about how to express myself in English :))
I highly recommend her classes—they are definitely worth it!

It was a productive and enjoyable trial. The teacher encouraged conversation and corrected me kindly. I felt supported the whole time and it was a friendly atmosphere. I’m looking forward to continuing the lessons.

I enjoyed my trial lesson with teacher Joan. The conversation flowed effortlessly, as she gave me plenty of opportunities to speak. She asked thoughtful questions and listened attentively. Another great lesson. The teacher recommends many interesting materials, motivates students to work independently and to constantly improve their skills. Additionally, she demonstrates great patience. The materials are very engaging and allow for in-depth exploration of the topic. I highly recommend her to everyone. Joan knows many foreign languages, which makes it easier to compare similar structures/expressions in other languages. One of the best teachers on italki!

Eu estou gostando muito das aulas com a Joan. As lições são voltadas para as minhas necessidades e tenho aprendido muito sobre o idioma.
Sem eu pedir ela procurou um material mais atualizado para um melhor resultado dos estudos.
Embora eu saiba um pouco de inglês, faz toda diferença ela falar português, porque nos momentos de dúvidas ela pode usar exemplos no meu idioma que facilitam o meu entendimento.
A atmosfera das aulas também é leve e muito amigável.
Ao final das aulas eu recebo um resumo com o que foi trabalhado na lição.
Ela é “cirúrgica” na transmissão do ensino do inglês. Eu recomendo as suas aulas. 😊
