Language mentor, language learner – let's learn together! Hello! I'm Caoimhín and I teach Irish here on italki. Some facts about me: I'm originally from Dublin, where English is the main language, but I did all my schooling through Irish, so I've been hearing, speaking, reading, and writing Irish since I was four years old. I started teaching Irish about four or five years ago and I really enjoy it. Even as a teacher, there's always more to learn. I love discovering new words and phrases and sharing them with my students. I'm a microbiologist by training, but the Irish language is my real passion! I've learned Finnish and German to an upper intermediate level myself, so I know what it takes to learn a language! I'm a very patient, agreeable person and I also try to be flexible in adapting my methods to fit the student's aims and learning style. I see myself more of a mentor than a teacher. My job is to facilitate learning in any way that I can. I'm very aware of how challenging and overwhelming it can be to learn a language, especially at the beginning. Reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, dialects, slang, differences between written and spoken usage – there is so much to learn! One of my main priorities is trying not to overwhelm the student by introducing too much new information all at once. Learning a language takes time. No need to rush. We'll get there! I've done more than 40 lessons with Caoimhín now and he has helped progress my Irish so quickly. I was able to even go to the Gaeltacht and speak order at cafes and restaurants as Gaeilge while also engaging in light conversation. I recommend him if you want to really start speaking Irish.

Caoimhín is absolutely wonderful to work with. He is kind, patient and encouraging. He allows for a relaxed and fun environment to use your speaking skills while always being quick and polite to make corrections and help build confidence.

A great teacher who explains well, has an excellent knowledge of Irish and who enjoys what he does
