Heya! I'm Cliff, originally from Atlanta, Georgia. In 2009 I moved to Almería, Spain for a fresh start — and I've happily called it home ever since.
Outside of teaching, I spend time with my young daughter, go rock climbing, play in a few bands, and stay fit through functional training.
Availability: I offer lessons from 8am–6pm Madrid time (CET/UTC+1). Since italki doesn't currently sync with external calendars, just send me a message and we'll find a slot that works for you!
I began my teaching career as a language assistant in Almería high schools, which gave me a solid foundation for working with all kinds of English learners. Over the past 15+ years I've taught at academies throughout Almería and at the Centro de Lenguas at the University of Almería.
My core focus is exam preparation: Cambridge Exams (A2–C2), British Council Aptis, EOI (Spain), TOEFL, IELTS, and SLP, among others. I also spent 6 years as an oral examiner, so I know exactly what assessors are looking for.
Beyond exams, I genuinely love conversation classes — hearing about my students' lives, discussing current events, and building real communicative confidence. I'm an avid podcast and radio listener, so I always come with fresh topics!

2019 - Huidige
Remote English TutorOnline English lessons focused on improving conversational skills in English whether it be related to the workplace, business or simply communicating more effectively in any situation. Test prep covering Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking is offered as well.
2017 - 2018
Onboarding SpecialistMy duties included assisting in customer support, teaching business English to employees at the company and I was responsible for remotely training new clients on how to use the software that was sold.

2011 - 2016
English TeacherMy lessons mainly focused on Cambridge Exam preparation from B1 to C1. We covered all parts of the exam including reading, writing, speaking and listening. The lessons were dynamic and included group and pair speaking work as well as learning different techniques to do the exams more efficiently.
2009 - 2011
Language and Cultural AssistantI worked at 2 different high schools where I helped with the preparation of the bilingual program that was implemented in Spain in 2010. My first year involved helping teachers improve their pronunciation, vocabulary, idioms etc. so they could teach their courses in English.
