I’ve enjoyed my conversation lessons with Risa-sensei tremendously! We’ve covered a wide range of different topics even in this short time: current affairs and a brief history of conflict in the Middle East, gender discrimination and equal rights, nature and conservation, and so on. She always brings an open ear and displays genuine interest in what her student has to say; plus, it is clear she is well-informed about goings-on and culture generally, and it is enriching to be able to cross-reference various issues with her experiences both in her native Japan and Australia, where she lives now. At every stage I’ve had help rendering what I’d like to say in more idiomatic Japanese, without any feelings of embarrassment on my end. I can’t speak to learning from scratch with her, but given her patient, affable and methodical nature, I can imagine it would be a very enjoyable process indeed - I am also very personally grateful for her being accommodating with reschedules. Top marks from me!
