I have 2 years of experience teaching Cantonese. I helped expats and exchange students to improve their Cantonese pronunciation and grammar.
After taking my classes, they are more confident to communicate with their local friends and colleagues now. A few of my students only knew "nei5 hou2" at the beginning, but now they can talk to their neighbors, their taxi drivers and hotel receptionists entirely in Cantonese.

Reading, writing, speaking and listening are the four fundamental skills of language learning.
I believe you could learn how to read or write Cantonese from textbooks and online resources, but you have to actually start speaking to achieve fluency. I usually suggest my students to focus on speaking in the class. I will help you improve the pronunciation, grammar and fluency. I can use Jyutping or Yale romanization system if you like.
Sometimes I like my students to write a story in Cantonese. They can use new vocab and sentence structures. You will see how much you have improved when your stories become longer and more complicated over time.

Stephen is super nice, attentive and delightful to talk with. He asks good questions to encourage me to speak, taking notes in the meantime, and after I finished my sentences, he lets me know my good choice of words and mistakes I made. He also elaborates certain points to me so that I know how to use a word in various contexts. Thank you Stephen for the fantastic first lesson and I will definitely book another one!

Stephen is incredibly patient and supportive. In our first lesson, he helped me learn new words and especially helped me with pronunciation (which is the most important thing in Cantonese!). I felt safe to make mistakes and learn from them with his help. I almost don't want to recommend him to anyone because I'm afraid he will get so popular with new students - he's so good! I'm sure he will become a favorite teacher of any student who takes his classes.

Very impressed with my first lesson with Stephen. He is professional, encouraging and a HK native speaker which is quite different from the other Cantonese teachers on this platform. If you want to learn HK slang and sound like a native HK speaker, it is quite important to learn from a HK native speaker in my opinion as there are certain terms that are used in HK but not Guangzhou.
