Chill Chiu

Chill has helped my son who is in the 8th grade with reading comprehension, writing and vocabulary. He looks forward to her lessons weekly. He is doing well his Chinese class because of Chill's tutoring.

I've been taking Cantonese lessons with Chill, on average once every 1-2 weeks for two years, and have gone from novice to being able to carry on conversations about daily life, all thanks to Chill! She is very friendly, organized, and tailors the lesson and materials to your interests and background. We worked our way through one textbook, it took about a year to learn commonly used vocabulary, and now we're working our way through a second textbook with a focus on more advanced grammar. Along the way, Chill has supplemented and reinforced the textbook lessons with lots of additional vocabulary, colloquialisms, and current events topics. I am really happy with my progress, Chill makes learning Cantonese super fun and relatively easy. I look forward to my lessons, the hour just flies by! It also helps to practice speaking at home and review flashcards regularly, but the bestestest help has been the one-on-one tutoring with Chill :)

Me and Chill 老师 have found the perfect learning technique for me. The first half of the lesson we chat, talk and catch up about our week. We talk about video’s I’ve watched and Chinese tv shows. I provide screenshots of subtitles of grammar structures/ characters I’m not familiar with and Chill will translate and give other example sentences of how to use the specific character. My listening and conversational Mandarin has improved drastically. I find I can eavesdrop on Chinese conversations outdoors now and understand the majority! Second half of the lesson we open the HSK books and go through the lessons in there. It keeps up with my reading and every HSK lesson we learn a new grammar structure. I’ve even tried a couple other Mandarin teachers on italki but for me Chill 老师 is the best. I’m so grateful I found Chill at the start of my Mandarin journey. Thank you Chill for your patience and kindness towards your teaching! Let’s keep going! 🇨🇳

Chill is such a great teacher, I really enjoy speaking with her. Even though sometimes it’s a struggle for me to speak and respond, Chill makes sure the learning environment is a safe space for me to think, make mistakes, and ask questions. I never feel judged or overly pressured, I feel comfortable to try my best every time! Thank you, Chill :)

Very structured way of teaching and great encouragement to practice. I loved the trial session with Chill as she makes you excited to continue learning Cantonese.
