I’m a travel-and-languages enthusiast who also loves anime, dramas, movies, and the occasional YouTube binge. I enjoy cooking, and I’m serious about health and fitness—I train with a local pole-vault club and compete in masters track meets. I’m a proud cat person.
On weekends and holidays, I usually tidy the house, look after the cats, and batch-cook meals for the week… then relax at home. I live with my wife and two daughters, plus two cats who keep us entertained.

Ik als leerkracht
Students often describe me as cheerful, positive, and easy to talk to. I believe learning should feel encouraging and achievable.
On italki I teach in English, Spanish, German, Chinese, or entirely in Japanese, adjusting the mix to your pace, level, and goals. If something doesn’t click, I’m patient and flexible: I’ll explain again, try fresh examples, rephrase, or switch methods.
I’m good at motivating learners—building on strengths, challenging just enough, and celebrating wins. I’ve also led Japanese classes at a U.S. university. One small request: if life derails a lesson, a quick note afterward keeps me from worrying (no alien abductions, I hope!). Let’s learn together!
Mijn lessen en manier van lesgeven
My lessons are speaking-forward: we spend our time using Japanese out loud. For kana/kanji, I believe the quickest path is old-school pen-and-paper repetition, so class time stays focused on speech.
If you’d like, I’m happy to add handwriting practice, paragraph writing, or long-reading.
In class we use slides for quick repeat drills, realistic role-plays, and conversations built around clear target expressions—practical, flexible, and fun.

Once again, there was a lot to learn and as much fun as never before. It is unbelievable how much you can learn from Mitch in such a short time. Today, we could conduct a short conversation only in Japanese. I look forward to the next time.

Teacher Mitch was amazing! I just had my first lesson with him, and he made it so much fun and you can tell he puts a lot of effort into his students. He also uses hand motions and symbols/drawings to help explain concepts, which I appreciated. Mitch is very warm and welcoming, it feels like a friend that I have known for a long time is teaching me! I am looking forward to more lessons with Mitch.
