Lessons usually begin with a conversation where I am encouraged to speak by responding to questions about what I have been doing or plan to do. This invariably involves learning new words or phrases or talking about some aspect of Chinese culture or the culture of my country. We then cover the homework. We then move forward into new material or revision. Lessons are always pleasant and the learning experience has been very fulfilling.

Fanfei recognizes my strengths and encourages me to be confidant, while also noting my weaknesses and curating my lessons and homework specifically to them. Since starting lessons with my Fanfei my vocabulary, confidence, and understanding of the language has greatly improved.

I have had scores of lessons with my tutor. As a retiree, over 70 years old, I no longer have the learning agility I may have once had. Fanfei is very patient. She also brings a mature perspective to the material, enhancing it with her own knowledge and experience. Her English is excellent so there are no communication issues at all. She is interested in my culture and has become familiar with my family especially my grandchildren who are also learning Mandarin at school. I feel that I have made excellent progress under her tutelage and guidance. I am now mid- HSK 4, and gaining confidence with reading and speaking.
