Hi there, thank you for visiting my iTalki profile page! My name is Jessica and I am an English teacher from the US. I began teaching English because I love learning languages. I've studied French, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese in the past, with varying degrees of fluency in each language. My language studies have led me to experience living abroad in China, Taiwan, and Brazil. I currently live in Japan and teach students at a local technical college focused on foreign language education. I have several hobbies including reading, exploring nature, baking, writing, watching YouTube videos, playing ukulele, drawing, knitting, etc!Ik als leerkracht
I completed my certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (also known as TESOL), and I've enjoyed applying the theories and strategies I've learned through the course in my own classes. I am interested in efficiency when it comes to language learning, and for that reason I try to focus on building vocabulary and grammar that are memorable and immediately usable for my students. In 2024, I completed my Master’s degree in linguistics, and that education has impacted my philosophy as a language teacher as well. Mijn lessen en manier van lesgeven
I currently offer two options for classes: "Express Yourself in English" and "Foundations of English."
"Express Yourself in English" is excellent for students who simply want to practice speaking and listening. The "Foundations of English" course is more structured and includes homework assignments. My overall goal is to help students build their confidence in their abilities to express themselves - no matter the context. For that reason, I focus on teaching words and grammar structures that are relevant to each students' goals and interests. I also focus on clear and effective communication over perfection, so please don't worry about making mistakes :)Mijn lesmateriaal
