Hello everyone! My name is Gabi.
I'm a Yale University graduate who loves learning and teaching. I grew up in a tiny town of 115 people, and since leaving my hometown, I've been fortunate enough to travel to Europe, Asia, and Africa. Though I'm currently getting a Master's degree in Translation at 臺灣師範大學, I also spent two years living and working in 安徽省.
I teach conversational English classes on italki because I truly believe having frequent conversations with native speakers is the best way to develop your speaking ability. One of the reasons my Mandarin is at the level it is today is because of my own experience with a fantastic teacher on italki. Now, I get to pay it forward!
I've been an English teacher since 2018 and I am TEFL certified. I taught English in Anhui for one and a half years, then two years in Tainan. While in Anhui, I was at a public school teaching high school students through the Yale-China Association. My time in Tainan was spent teaching a wider range of ages, kindergarten through high school, at an English Language Center.
I love having the opportunity to interact with students one-on-one and learn more about their lives, interests, and language learning goals. I want to be someone my students feel comfortable with as I help them on their unique language learning journey.
My current class focuses on speaking skills, with the goal being communication rather than perfection.

I left China during the COVID-19 pandemic, and since then I've continued tutoring former students from Xiuning Middle School in one-on-one English lessons via WeChat.

ESL TeacherI taught students (pre-K to high school) at Tainan's American Language Center. The school is privately run and has been in operation for more than 35 years, offering conversation-focused English classes to local students. I taught large group classes as well as tutored students privately. Courses ranged from pre-K storytelling to Model UN simulations.
