Oi! :) My name is Laura and I live in the state of São Paulo, Brazil.
As a language teacher, I’m fascinated by the process of learning languages and how people gradually become confident communicating in a new culture.
Outside the classroom, I’m naturally curious about the world. I enjoy researching and writing about world politics and Brazilian history just for fun.
I also love traveling and discovering different cultures, whether abroad or within Brazil. I’m a bit of a movie nerd, and from time to time I completely disappear into a video game for a while. Music also plays a big role in my life. I often say I have an old soul, but I’m always searching for new artists to fall in love with.Ik als leerkracht
Learning a language is a gradual process that goes far beyond memorizing rules. For me, it’s about understanding how the language works in real life and feeling comfortable using it.
I often compare language learning to traveling to another country. While traveling usually happens on vacation, learning a language can happen any day, from the comfort of your home.
Brazilian Portuguese is deeply connected to culture, accent, and everyday life. As your teacher, I help you understand not only the structure of the language, but also how real Brazilians speak, sharing cultural insights, expressions, and natural communication used in daily life. During the trial lesson, we will talk about your goals and decide which class fits you best. I offer two types of lessons: “Learn Brazilian Portuguese (A1–A2)” and “Engaging Conversations.”
In Learn Brazilian Portuguese, we build the foundations of the language through grammar, pronunciation, and practical sentence building so you can start communicating with confidence.
In Engaging Conversations, the goal is real communication. We talk naturally, the way you would with a friend, about different topics, just like real conversations in Brazil, where you don’t have much time to plan what to say. I make corrections, explain recurring grammar mistakes, and help you speak more naturally.Mijn lesmateriaal

Laura is an excellent teacher. Knowledgeable, completely trilingual in Portugues, English and Spanish and able to 'scaffold' the student's knowledge to allow conversations to flow while leaving notes for the student to study after the lesson; that is, the lesson itself is not all that one benefits from Laura's conversations. I have worked with many very good ITalki tutors. Laura is one of the very best. She is a pleasure to work with and advances the student's language knowledge. I highly recommended Laura to any level of language learner.

Laura is an amazing teacher! I had many teachers before her but I didn’t feel like my Portuguese was improving, but since having classes with Laura, I can see a huge difference! I don’t translate from Spanish into Portuguese anymore, I just speak in Portuguese without translating in my mind! I feel much more confident speaking now and it’s all thanks to Laura ☺️ she creates a really safe environment where I have lost my fear of making mistakes ☺️ obrigadaaa 🥰

Laura is an exceptional Portuguese teacher. I've been taking classes with her for two years, and her patience, kindness, friendliness, and deep knowledge have made a tremendous impact on my learning journey. She consistently encouraged me and provided the support I needed to achieve my goals. Thanks to Laura, I now speak Brazilian Portuguese with confidence. She is the BEST !!!!!!

During this class, I was able to discuss my expectations, my reason, for learning Portugese. We discussed her teaching style and why she thinks it will be beneficial to me, which I was happy with. Her style suits my learning style. however, she was open to try another teaching style to support my learning needs at the time. I am excited to start learning with Lorna.
