Welcome to your trial Dutch lesson!

I'm excited to welcome you in my online classroom. In this lesson, I'd like to start by learning more about you! We'll discuss your language learning goals and any resources you may have already used. If there's anything else you think might be relevant for me to know about your experience—now is the time to share it!

Then, I'll share my teaching style and how I give feedback during lessons. Then, I'll tell you how I structure my lessons and homework, and how I intend to set (and celebrate) the Dutch language milestones we'd like to set. Then, I'll send you a plan within 48 hours letting you know what my idea is for how we can work together to help you achieve success. 

A more detailed overview of what you can expect:

- Introduction: We'll get to know each other and talk about your goals.
- Lesson Overview: I'll explain the type of lessons I offer and how they can be tailored to your needs.
- Quick Assessment: We'll have a short conversation in Dutch, so that I can listen closely and make a rough assessment of your current pitfalls and likely areas of improvement.
- Goal Setting: We'll establish a basic outline for a plan for reaching your language learning goals, which I will send you within 48 hours after the lesson. We'll also discuss the best self-study methods you can use.
- Deadline: If you have a specific timeline in mind, let's discuss it and talk about ways for you to meet your deadline.
- Materials: I'll recommend  resources for self-study, including: textbooks, online courses, and language learning apps. You'll also get access to my complete online archive of useful links on everything to do with the Dutch language.
- Questions: If you have any questions, now is the time to ask them!

I'm excited to help you on your journey to learn Dutch! By the end of this trial lesson, you'll have a clear understanding of what to expect in our lessons and how we can work together to achieve your language learning goals.

Hoi! I know that speaking Dutch can be scary. 😔 Many blockages come up which hinder our feeling of progress. I've been there—honestly! Our mindset holds us back, and it can feel VERY unsafe to even ponder the feeling of being accepted in a foreign country. Especially if prior experience has "proven" otherwise! 🙅‍♂️😳

I have a mindset and heart for safety and healing trauma. Of course, when treading Dutch ground, there may be just one path forward: "walk the talk"! I'll help you put your klompen on, so you can join the Oranje family and feel joyful here! Yes, even YOU CAN grow, but safe exposure and patience is key. To be very honest, I lacked just that! I felt rejected socially, even in my 'own' country, but we can learn from and take steps together! 🌸

Common concerns are: in which order do I place the words? Which words do I learn? And how? Maybe I have the 'book smarts', but not the intuitive 'feeling' for the language. That's okay!

That's where I can help, in stretching your comfort zone slowly and carefully. That way, you can feel like you're growing—by confronting your fears and anxieties that come with (thinking you're) looking like a fool and others are judging. (Psst... don't worry, they're not! You're a beginner, and there's never judgment in that, except from yourself—which I understand.)

So: you're not alone! I've walked the same path with my own klompen, and I'm here to help you navigate from 'safe' (not-so-fun) land to the waters of the Dutch language, to come home to your Safe Haven in Nederland. Time to grow! 😀

Finally, learning does need to be fun and easy, so we always start by finding out what your joy and connection with the language is, even if it appears otherwise. Of course, even more important (but in no way fun!): what your fears and anxieties are surrounding the language. You can't heal what you can't see, so we gotta shine some Oranje light on that. Don't worry: we'll do it carefully and safely!
