Vietnamese Reunification Day is held annually on April 30th, celebrating the liberation of South Vietnam and the reunification of Vietnam. International worker’s day is also called Labour Day which aims at commemorating the international worker’s movement of the 1800s. These two holidays are consecutive so this time of the year is looked forward to by workers who can take many days off. On these holidays, the government allows all citizens to take time off from work or from school. Some companies or organizations will give a holiday bonus to all of their employees. If the vacations fall on the weekdays, between Monday and Wednesday, we’ll be off for 2 days. If they happen on Thursday or Friday, the holidays will last until Sunday. And in the case the holidays fall on the weekends, we’ll have 2 additional days off like this year. On the first day of the holidays, I attended my high school’s wedding (that’s confusing, do you mean one of your friends from high school got married?). The next day, I traveled a trendy destination located 50 km away from my city / hometown on my scooter. The remaining days, I spent time with my parents and relatives. Besides Tet holiday, Reunification Day and Labour Day are the second most important holidays for citizens. We take these days to be grateful and remember the heroes who sacrificed themselves."
