If you ask who learn English really diffcultly around the world, Chinese people definitely do! Most of us have started learning English at a very early age, but we did something quite different. We started learning English from reading, not listening. After reading for over 12 years, some of us are good at reading, but fail to order food in a restaurant. Why we choose the unusual way to learn English? If I show some Chinese characters to you, you would understand something. For example, Horse, this simple word sounds like a horse is neighing in English, but In China, it pronounces"ma". When we look at the word, something become really different. In Chinese, horse is written in "马", it was also written in some other related patterns( please check the picture below). You might understand that Chinese people have got used to leran a word through its shape first, not pronunciation. This is a great way to learn Chinese quickly, but not fit for learning English. So, I forced myself to listen English at the age of 35 with my little children. Listening, speaking, reading and writing is the correct order to learn English. This is my experience, but also my advice for others.
