I read a book review about “Plunder” which was written by Cynthia Saltzman.
The book was about the paintings which were plundered by armies.
For example, “The wedding feast” was Italian artwork and was drawn by Veronese.
But Napoleon engineered the quarrel with Venice, he let an unauthorized French ship 🚢 navigate in Venice and then the Venetian army declared the war.
After Venice surrendered, they promised to give France 3m Francs, 5 paintings, more than a 100 painting masterpieces, etc. This was totally a trick which was played by Napoleon who intended to take all the artworks from Italy systematically. And then they put “The Wedding Feast” on display in Louvre.
After Napoleon was defeated, the Louvre's boss returned half of the paintings to Italy and “ The Wedding Feast” was not among them. Why? Because he said:” The masterpiece won’t survive such a long journey”.
At the end of the book, the author continued to introduce what happened to “ The wedding feast”. It hangs opposite the Mona Lisa in Louvre and experienced thousands of concealments from Nazi.
That’s all for today
Thank you!
