In Spanish, can you use the word “usar” to mean “to wear (clothing)”? I’ve heard conflicting things. I’ve heard llevar or vestirse are the most common verbs for this but I read you can also use “usar” whereas other people say no one actually says that.
Hi!
"usar" is also correct to refer to the dress. Like she is wearing my dress/ ella está USANDO mi vestido. There are many synonyms, but choose the word that does not generate so much conflict. I hope I helped :)

I personally don’t use it like that, but I have most definitely heard « usar » used in that way.

Hi Michelle what a complex question, I am not an expert in the language even though this is my native language but I will go for the use of "llevar" ("llevar puesto" for clothes actually), "ponerse" or "vestirse" than "usar" you can use "usar" and people is going to understand you anyway.
for example:
Today I am going to wear my favorite shirt.
Hoy usare mi camisa favorita.
Hoy me pondre mi camisa favorita.
Hoy me vestire con mi camisa favorita.
I think all those are valid for now until somebody who knows better the language can clarify :)

It can be used, but isn’t very often. It’s like saying in English, “What clothes are you using?” instead of “What clothes are you wearing?” It’s not that it can’t be used, it’s that other verbs fit better.
